History
Starburst Theatre School was first established in 2006.
Starburst Theatre School is the brainchild of Karen Elliott who has always wanted to give young people the chance to learn everything about theatre work. Karen is the mother of three sons who have all now ‘flown the nest’. She has been involved in theatre work since the age of 9 when she played the part of ‘Henrietta’ in ‘Monsieur de la Plume’, a musical about Robert Louis Stevenson’s childhood in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Since then she has performed in ‘Grease’, ‘All the King’s Men’, ‘Bugsy Malone’ and ‘Oliver’, to name but a few. She has also taught singing and piano for over twenty years, (ten at Gordonstoun School in Scotland).
The students at Starburst are encouraged to not only choose which show to perform, but star in it, make the scenery and costumes, learn the dance routines and songs and be given the opportunity to perform in front of an audience. The students have only one term to study the different shows and plenty more besides.
